Are a Speech Therapist and Speech Language Pathologist the same thing?
Yes. They are also referred to as a SLP. Terminology changes depending on the setting (i.e school, rehab, hospital, etc.).
What schooling is required?
SLP’s have a Masters Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders. SLP’s complete a 36 week Clinical Fellowship Year under the supervision of another clinician. SLP’s much pass a comprehensive examination. SLP’s hold national certification and state licensure.
What will speech therapy look like for me?
An evaluation will be performed on the initial visit assessing speech, language, swallowing, voice, or cognitive linguistic skills depending on needs.
Therapy will be performed during the following visits using a variety of treatments depending on needs determined during initial evaluation.
How long will I need speech therapy?
Therapy frequency and duration is individualized depending on needs and severity of deficits.
How old do you have to be to participate in speech therapy?
Clients range from 1 to 99+ years old.
